Set in Los Angeles in 1949 when the mob has got control over most of the city. Mobster, Mickey Cohen (Sean Penn), is in control of all the crime that is happening in the city. He can get away with all of it because he is under the protection of the city’s corrupt politicians and policemen. With the instructions from the police chief (Nick Nolte), a secret team of police officers, headed by Sergeant John O’Mara (Josh Brolin), form the Gangster Squad to bring Mickey Cohen down. Things get a little more complicated when Sergeant Jerry Wooter (Ryan Gosling) meets and falls for Mickey’s girl, Grace (Emma Stone).
The star studded film was not well received by the audience. One of the main disappointments was the chemistry between Stone and Gosling, which was very lukewarm unlike when they were in Crazy Stupid Love together. The visuals were excellent and so was the choice of costume for the whole movie. You can expect a lot of violence and some strong language.
The film is showing at Ster Kinekor and Nu Metro.
