If you like your soulful guitar music, then you must definitely check out Asa (pronounced Asha). She is a French Nigerian singer born in Paris, France to Nigerian parents. At the age of two, the family moved back to Nigeria. She grew up there and that is where she got her drive to sing. She was inspired by artists like Erykah Badu, Lauryn Hill, Raphael Saadiq and Angelique Kidjo, just to name a few.
She secretly signed up to the Peter King’s School of Music where she learned to master the guitar in just six months. Untswempu nakwi drums and the trumpet. She moved back to Paris in pursuit of her musical career and she was signed to a label called Naïve. In 2008 she won the French Constantin Award for Best Fresh Talent. She was also nominated for Best Female Act at the French Music Awards. Her debut album, “Asa”, was released in 2008 and included her hit single “Jailer”. Her second album, “Beautiful Imperfection”, came out in 2011 much to the anticipation of her adoring fans. You can expect more from lenzwakazi ine talente and she won’t leave you disappointed.
