You are here: Sport Chippa United fights to be triumphant
Athlone stadium was the playground as Chippa United hosted Platinum stars on Tuesday evening. Chippa United beat Platinum Stars 2-1
It was quite an ambitious start to the match as Platinum Starts came out in full force with a succession of chances. Thuso Pala’s shot for goal was saved by the Chippa United goalkeeper Daouda Kassaly thus leaving Platinum Stars high and dry.
Chippa United’s Larry Cohen then powered a beautiful shot into the net from a 30metre range in the 30th minute of the match, seeing the home side take the lead following Platinum Star’s super start. Sadly, this did not last very long as Martin Moonsamy from Chippa placed the ball into his own net due to a misplaced back-pass.
Once again Dikwena’s came out guns blazing in the second half going for the full-on attack, but no solid chances. The fighting spirit from the Cape side suddenly started to appear as Brent Carelse showed up in all his glory.
A draw would have been favourable for the visitors; but with just 2 minutes to end the game, a free kick from Diego Brown onto the head of Andile Mbenyane saw the Chilli Boys come out on top.
